Nicki's fitness tip: The buggy workout

The beauty of a buggy workout is that it can be whatever you want it to be. It's best to find a park for your buggy workout, but if you don't have any green space near you, it's no problem, you can walk on the pavement. Start by power walking at a pace that's right for you – fast enough to get your blood circulating, but not so fast as to tire yourself out. If and when you feel ready, you could move up to a slow jog, increasing speed and time as you get fitter.

There are tons of benefits to a buggy workout, including:

Being outside in the sunlight stimulates production of vitamin D, which regulates calcium absorption and is essential for bone health.

Babies enjoy being pushed in their pram and like to be in the fresh air. Fresh air is good for you too, improving your mood.

The workout naturally gets harder with time as your baby grows (and gets heavier!), allowing you to progress.

Walking, power walking or jogging while pushing your buggy is a great fat-burning activity. You can challenge your body even more, working on uneven terrain, walking up hills and against the natural elements, and you can expect to burn between 300 to 400 calories per hour.

You can power walk with your pram or buggy anytime, anywhere and with anyone, but if you take a class it also becomes an opportunity to meet other mums in your area, without the worry or expense of childcare.
