Stacks of research shows that the more food we have in front of us, the more we're likely to eat, so start putting less food on your plate. Meanwhile, always check serving size suggestions on ready-made foods, especially for pasta and rice – and then stick to them. You really don't need to add that little bit extra 'just in case'! Finally, don't be tempted to eat the same sized portions as your partner – men of healthy weight and average activity level need around 500 more calories than women each day. Ive started to fill my plate but set aside a quarter of the food to one side and by the time I've finished eating, I'm full enough to not want that extra quarter :)

@M Yes, I quite agree. Plates and bowls seem to have become larger and larger so no wonder our portion sizes have too. Great tip M, try eating from a smaller plate :)

Juliette's lifestyle tip of the day today is about eating 3 average sized meals and 2 snacks a day rather than 3 big meals. Digesting and absorbing food actually burns up around 10 per cent of the calories you eat each day * Louise
