It's easy to say you should sleep more, but hard to put this into practice! To make it easier to get off to sleep, you can rearrange your bed - make it extra specially comfy by plumping up the cushions or having a hot water bottle on your belly while you sleep. Having a cup of calming tea such as valerian or chamomile tea helps as well.
Also, before bedtime, make sure you don't do anything too active, but gentle stretches are a good idea. Try some of Nicki's yoga stretches : LYING DOWN YOGA STRETCH or the TRIANGLE POSTURE .
If you have thoughts whirring round your head that are stopping you from sleeping, it's a good idea to keep a pad and pen by your bed so you can write everything you're thinking about down, ready to deal with in the morning, so you can forget about it for a while and go to sleep.

That's a really good idea - I often feel stressed and exhausted after hours slouched over the computer in the evenings doing my Uni assignments and sorting out emails etc or in front of the tv - and not getting enough sleep. Will definitely try your idea of making a 'to do' list to see if it helps. Thanks!

I find reading also helps me to sleep as it naturally tires the eyes. I try to stay off the computer and away from the tv for an hour or so before bedtime as both stimulate you and keep you awake. A hot drink can also help.

I always have a cup of chamomile before I go to bed and try and lay down on the floor before I actually get into bed so that I have let go of as much as my day as possible. I really notice a difference with my mind and body racing when I haven't done these things. Another good one which my yoga teacher told me is to lay with your feet and legs up the wall for 5 minutes before going to sleep.
