Preheat the oven to 200°C/gas mark 6. Cut 1 large potato into wedges and place on a baking sheet. Brush with sunflower oil, sprinkle with paprika and bake in the oven for around 25 minutes until the inside is soft and the outside is crunchy. Meanwhile, heat a non-stick frying pan or griddle. Brush 1 lean rump steak with a little sunflower oil and cook according to how you like it. Halve 1 tomato and cut ½ a small onion into rings. Place in the pan with the steak, together with a handful of button mushrooms. Serve the steak and veg with the chunky chips. Follow with 1 pear.

I make a similar dish to this quite often, swapping the cut of meat for whatever happens to be in offer in the market, and it's really tasty. I sometimes find that a standard potato sits too heavily for me, for anyone else with this issue I suggest using a sweet potato as it seems to be more digestible (and its full of beta-carotene so its healthy as well as tasty - what more could you ask for?)

Hi Janet - I think steak often means £££s but it doesn't always have to. You can replace the rump steak with various other cuts of beef. One of my favourites is 'feather steak' (or Onglet) - it has the same texture as fillet steak but you can buy a packet for around £3 and it will feed 2 people. You just have to cut out the centre membrane. I know that the cost of food is always increasing and with the recession as well, we all have less to spend on luxury foods.
