Several definitions of probiotics exist dating back to the pioneering work carried out at the beginning of the last century (Metchnikoff 1908, Tissier 1906) which helped form the basis for the scientific study of probiotics.
An expert committee of the FAO and WHO published the following definition which states that probiotics are: ‘Live micro-organisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host’ (FAO/WHO expert consultation 2001).
So, in every day terms, probiotics are live microorganisms which, when they are live and in sufficient quantities, have a beneficial effect on our health. Their effects are dependent on the particular species and strain of probiotic and also on the type of product or food within which it is found.
Activia® contains Bifidus ActiRegularis® which is a probiotic; therefore Activia® is a probiotic product. When eaten everyday, Activia® is scientifically proven to help improve slower digestive transit
